WhatsApp Redesign

This is a personal project of redesigning a WhatsApp on iOS and Android. The apps on both platforms look and behave entirely differently. The focus of the redesign is to bring the best of both platforms. It establishes a Unified Design System of shared components and creates a consistent branding experience.

Chats

Bigger avatars and names create a strong visual hierarchy. Only vital UI elements get brand color treatment. The new persistent message bar at the bottom of the screen clarifies how to send a message or share a photo.

List of suggested contacts users are mostly likely to chat with is followed by a traditional contact list. New “Plus” button reveals a menu to start a group chat or add a new contact.

Redesigned large icons make camera controls more intuitive and easier to see outdoors. A strip of the recently taken photos is always accessible, but minimizes when a user taps to focus.

Light and Dark Mode

Every screen gets a new Light and Dark modes to reduce strain on the eyes.
